Dohn Construction Breaks Ground on Economic Revitalization/Historical Preservation Project Posted 9/12/2007

Dohn Construction, Inc. announced the Sept 6 groundbreaking of a new St. Mary?s School building, located in downtown Cheyenne, WY. Dohn Construction was selected as the general contractor for the project, located in downtown Cheyenne?s Block 208, adjacent to the site of the first Catholic church and school in Wyoming, circa 1869, and two former public elementary schools built at the location in 1886 and 1940.

?We are honored to be part of a project that has such historic significance, both to St. Mary?s Catholic Church which commissioned the project and to the Cheyenne community at large,? said project manager, David Stolte.

Construction of the new St. Mary?s School will involve the architectural preservation of historic building materials including original terracotta masonry from the Corlett Elementary School previously built on the site. The planned two-story, 63,400 square foot school will also incorporate architectural design elements from the existing St. Mary?s Catholic School facility adjacent to the project site. The new structure will include classroom space for approximately 350 pre-K through 8th Grade students, as well as art and music classrooms, library, chapel, gymnasium, performance stage and alumni room.

The site is within a City of Cheyenne Development Incentive Overlay District (DIOD), a designation aimed at stimulating urban redevelopment and the economic climate of the downtown area. ?Commitment to community is one of the driving principles behind Dohn Construction and the St. Mary?s School project is very meaningful to us because it provides us the opportunity to help advance the economic vitality and historical preservation of Cheyenne?s original downtown district,? said founder and President, Doug Dohn. Construction of the St. Mary?s School will begin immediately and Dohn anticipates completing the project in the fall of 2008.

Dohn Construction was founded by Doug and Connie Dohn in 1992 and the Fort Collins based general contractor will celebrate its fifteenth anniversary this fall. Dohn Construction has completed hundreds of regional construction projects including LEED certified schools and commercial buildings, community centers, warehouse structures and custom homes.
